A brand born on a military base

High school friends and couples Molly and Ted Fienning and Carolyn and Mathew Guard first met over a decade ago. After graduation, they traveled together, dreaming of starting their own business. While Carolyn, Mathew, and Molly entered the corporate world, Ted joined the Navy as a fighter pilot.

The idea for Babiators was born on a military base in Beaufort, South Carolina, when Molly noticed that the children of her friends—who were pilots’ wives—were squinting in the sun, while their stylish parents were well-protected behind their aviator sunglasses. That’s when Molly shared the idea with her husband: sunglasses designed specifically for kids—durable, protective, and fashionable. Ted’s response? "Let’s make them and call them Babiators!"

At the same time, Mathew and Carolyn were looking for a business opportunity to invest in. They loved the idea of creating high-quality, affordable, safe, durable, and stylish products that would let kids be kids while keeping them protected. Carolyn immediately recognized the potential and jumped in at full speed.

The company officially launched in 2011, with Carolyn and Molly working from their own kitchens. Today, the Babiators team is growing rapidly, establishing itself as a premium brand in the children’s product industry. In 2014, Forbes recognized Babiators as one of the most promising companies in America.

From their headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Babiators products are now sold in over 30 countries, giving kids the freedom and protection they need to enjoy every adventure that comes their way.
